Bucas Expert – How to Fit a Bucas Rug
How to Fit a Bucas Rug
Fitting a Bucas rug properly is important for your horse’s comfort and safety. Here are the general steps to follow:
- Measure your horse: Before purchasing a Bucas rug, measure your horse from the centre of their chest to the point of their buttocks, and from the top of their withers to their tail. This will ensure that you get the correct size rug for your horse.
2. Check the fit: Once you have your Bucas rug, place it over your horse’s back and adjust the front closures so that the rug sits snugly around the chest and shoulders. The front should be high enough to prevent rubbing, but not so high that it restricts the horse’s movement. Check that the rug is sitting level along the horse’s back.
3. Adjust the surcingles: The surcingles should be adjusted so that they sit snugly around your horse’s belly, without being too tight. You should be able to fit your hand between the surcingle and your horse’s belly.
4. Check the tail flap: The tail flap should hang down to just above the horse’s tail, without covering it completely. This will protect the horse’s hindquarters from the cold and wet.
5. Adjust the leg straps: If your Bucas rug has leg straps, adjust them so that they sit snugly against the horse’s legs, without being too tight. Make sure that they are not twisted or tangled.
6. Check the fit again: Once you have adjusted all the straps and closures, check the fit of the rug again to make sure that it is sitting comfortably on your horse’s back.
Ensure your horse stays warm and comfortable in all weather with these tips! Because the right rug will keep your horse healthy and happy.
